Between 6 August and 10 September 2025, the European Commission opened a call for evidence in the context of the preparation of the European Research Area (ERA) Act proposal, to be tabled in the third quarter of 2026.
The aim of the call for evidence, as a first step in the public stakeholder consultation process, was to collect general evidence on the problems facing the development and full achievement of the ERA, along with stakeholders’ views on feasible solutions that could be supported by legislation at EU level.
Overall, 178 contributions from 29 countries were received, most of them showing strong general support for the ERA Act initiative.
