Background
The first ERA action 17 Enhance public research institutions’ strategic capacity (2022–24) laid important groundwork for strengthening the research management profession in the European Research Area (ERA). It supported building a European-wide community of research managers and introduced tools at EU level, increasing the visibility and recognition of the profession.
The second ERA action Empowering R&I: A new era in research management (2025-27) builds on this progress. It continues to focus on recognition, upskilling, networking, and capacity building, while aiming to broaden the scope and impact of these efforts across the ERA. One objective is to further raise awareness of the profession and the EU tools already developed. This document therefore serves as a starting point for those organising existing events across Europe wanting to incorporate the topic of research management.
Available material
There are three ways, events can be supported:
- Re-usable toolbox: The Commission created a re-usable toolbox that can be used to spread information. It includes a common visual, sample presentation, bundle of available material: standard presentation, RM COMP, a factsheet and research management visual.
- Events overview: If you plan an event, the Commission invites you to share the following information, so it can be promoted through the ERA Policy Platform.
- Basic info (title of the event, date and time, location, language and organiser)
- Content (short description, target audience, speakers and key topics)
- Practical participation details, e.g. deadline for registration, capacity limits, costs.
-
Possible speakers: As the action implementation is supported by a core group as well as a broader network of countries and organisations, the Commission can help identify possible speakers.
