This report describes what the current publication platforms are, what purposes they serve, who is using them, and who owns them. It also includes a discussion of opportunities and challenges with a future publication practice that to an everincreasing extent is based on such platforms. The report focuses on aspects that relate to ownership, cost levels and financial solutions, as well as processes for peer review and merit assessment.
