Meeting of the Competitiveness Council on 8 December 2023

At the meeting of the Competitiveness Council on 8 December, EU Member States agreed on two important steps for European research and innovation:

First, they called for a stronger role of science in policymaking in Council Conclusions. They agreed on the Commission's proposal to further develop the concept of Science4Policy and to promote the integration of scientific and evidence-based knowledge in public policies. 

Second, they agreed on a Council Recommendation to empower the researchers themselves. New measures to make research careers more attractive and to foster better working conditions for researchers are key for strengthening the European Research Area.
